Blue Jays May Look To Trade Relievers

Oct 31, 2014 9:16 PM

Alex Anthopoulos says it's possible that the Toronto Blue Jays will look to trade their surplus of relievers this offseason.

"The club's surplus of relievers is one area of depth we might have that could be attractive to other teams," he said. "We were asked about a lot of our guys in July and I don't know how the offseason's going to go, but it will not surprise me if maybe we use some of that depth to help the club in some other areas."

Rays Expected To Shop David Price

Oct 31, 2014 9:24 PM

The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to shop David Price this winter.

They can't afford to sign Price long-term and this offseason he will be two years away from free agency.

Price posted a 2.57 ERA over his final 17 starts in 2013. He is aware of the situation, but loves pitching for Tampa Bay.

"I love it here," he said. "Everybody in our organization knows that. The fan base knows it."

GM: Rangers Weren't Forced To Deal For Garza

Nov 13, 2014 2:46 PM

Jon Daniels claims a report that Texas Rangers ownership pressured him into acquiring Matt Garza earlier this season is false.

Garza, a free agent at the end of the season, was acquired for four prospects on July 23. He is 4-5 with a 4.56 ERA in 12 starts with Texas.

"It's not accurate," Daniels said of the Yahoo! Sports report. "The last thing I'm looking to do is see any sort of wedges driven or anything like that. It's just not accurate. Ownership has been as supportive as they possibly can be. They want to win, but they've never forced our hand on any move. I'm really fortunate.

"I'm not saying that because they pay my paychecks. It's the truth. They haven't forced us to do anything or pressured or anything like that. They've been as supportive as any ownership team or ownership group in the sport."

Rays Already Focused On Offseason To-Do List

Dec 4, 2014 4:44 AM

The Tampa Bay Rays figure to be set at a number of positions heading into the offseason, which will shape their to-do list.

Joe Maddon's club seems to be set at third, short, second and in center and right field.

The Rays are also expected to retain a catching platoon of Jose Lobaton and Jose Molina.

That leaves Tampa Bay is the market for a first baseman, left fielder and designated hitter.

Rangers Tried To Acquire Justin Upton In July

Nov 13, 2014 2:46 PM

The Texas Rangers have missed Nelson Cruz, who is serving a 50-game suspension for his role in the Biogenesis scandal, and they tried to acquire a big bat earlier this summer.

The Rangers attempted to pull off a blockbuster trade with the Atlanta Braves for Justin Upton before the July 31 trade deadline. They offered Matt Garza, Joe Nathan and David Murphy, but the deal was rejected according to two officials.

"The likelihood that both will be traded this offseason is zero," writes Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post.

Giants Looking To Acquire Power Bat For 2014

Oct 23, 2014 11:43 AM

The San Francisco Giants are looking to acquire a power bat for next season.

Bruce Bochy clarified the desire as "somebody who can drive the ball."

The market for hitters is expected to be thin, which will force the Giants to look at multiple positions. That means Brandon Belt could be moved from first base to left field if the club is unable to land a slugger for their outfield.

Mets, Rockies May Discuss Carlos Gonzalez

Sep 17, 2014 5:32 AM

The New York Mets have long coveted Carlos Gonzalez and one baseball executive close to the situation predicted that the Colorado Rockies will seriously consider offers for the outfielder this winter.

The Rockies could even consider offers for Troy Tulowitzki.

Colorado is expected to covet a package of young position players for Gonzalez, as opposed to pitching, which makes the Mets an unlikely match.

According to a source, the Rockies consider it too risky to trade for young pitching.

Diamondbacks Seeking Another Big Bat

Sep 2, 2014 1:45 AM

Kevin Towers says the Arizona Diamondbacks might look to add a "prototypical, corner bat" for next season, either in the form of an outfielder or a third baseman.

Towers sounded more willing to go into next season with the same group of hitters last month, but the team's recent struggles may have changed his mind.
